A first app for Japanese kana, built for preschoolers. Children can start before they can read — pictures and voice carry the learning.

  • Kana board: tap any square of the gojūon chart to hear it read aloud. Switch between hiragana and katakana, and show voiced and semi-voiced sounds
  • Tracing: follow the stroke-order guide with a finger, with an animated model showing the correct order. After tracing, the character connects to a word through a picture and its sound
  • Forgiving judgement, tuned for preschoolers: stumble on the same stroke a few times and it lets you through
  • Karuta: pick the picture card for a word starting with a given kana, from six cards
  • Word quiz (Pro): look at a picture and tap kana tiles in order to spell the word
  • Listen and choose (Pro): characters that sound the same but are written differently — the particles は/へ/を, small っ ゃ ゅ ょ, and long vowels. A sentence is read aloud and you pick between two spellings
  • A flower calendar, a streak counter, and stamps keep a record of the days you played
  • The kana board, tracing, and karuta are free; a one-time Pro purchase unlocks the word quiz and listening mode
